Manchester United meet Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round today. Ruben Amorim could certainly do with a deep run in this competition, after his predecessor Erik ten Hag was initially saved by winning it last season. While the current United boss is perhaps not under quite as much pressure as the Dutchman was back then, there is little doubt that things definitely haven’t gone to plan so far.

It remains difficult to trust United, despite their midweek home win over Ipswich. They remain as chaotic as ever and a team as well-coached as Fulham could certainly cause them problems this afternoon. Marco Silva is enjoying another fine season in charge of the west London club and a deep cup run looks like the next objective for him to tick off.

The Red Devils have won both Premier League matches between the teams this season 1-0, while their visitors will still hold a grudge from that remarkable 3-1 loss in the FA Cup two years ago when they finished with nine men. Manchester United are without January signing Patrick Dorgu today due to his midweek sending off against Ipswich, with Noussair Mazraoui expected to deputise.

Ruben Amorim’s list of absentees remains extensive, with none of his injured cohort expected back this afternoon.

Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez have both been lost for the season, while Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw are also sidelined along with Mason Mount, Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans and Toby Collyer.

Alejandro Garnacho picked up a knock against Ipswich before heading straight down the tunnel after being subbed off before half-time as Dorgu’s dismissal led to a reshuffle, but is expected to be fit.

Prolific teenage striker Chido Obi will hope to play a role for United this afternoon after being left out of the Under-18s squad that won at former club Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals on Friday night.
